Galaxy Z's days are apparently numbered: Accessories point to a very unusual name for Samsung's iPhone Ultra competitor

We'll know by July 22, 2026 at the latest, because that's when the successors to the Galaxy Z Fold7 (available here at Amazon US) and Galaxy Z Flip 7 are finally set to be officially unveiled, along with a new foldable form factor that’s been making the rounds for months under a variety of names. More compact, thinner, lighter, and above all wider than the elongated format of previous Samsung foldables, it’s intended primarily as an alternative to Apple’s iPhone Fold—aka iPhone Ultra—expected in September. It remains to be seen whether Samsung will fail as miserably with this as it did with the Galaxy S25 Edge, which was also released before Apple's iPhone Air.
For now, it’s not even known with certainty what Samsung’s third foldable of the year will actually be called. It was previously referred to as the Galaxy Z Wide Fold or Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, but a few weeks ago, reliable leakers surprised us with the name Galaxy Z Fold8. This name probably didn't just surprise us, because the new Galaxy Z Fold8 definitely doesn’t look like a direct successor to the Galaxy Z Fold7. Moreover, due to various missing features, such as the third camera, it’s actually a downgrade, not an upgrade.
Galaxy New Fold instead of Galaxy Z Fold 8
Now yet another name for Samsung’s compact foldable has surfaced, and at first glance, it seems to be substantiated by circulating images of supposed Samsung Kindsuit protective cases. X accounts such as those of @Mohammed_K_2010 and @thinborne have posted authentic-looking photos of these cases in their packaging, all of which bear the name “Galaxy New Fold” and are looking like a match for Samsung’s new foldable form factor.
Doubts about the name despite authentic looking photos
And yet, there are doubts. Not so much that these images might be fake, but that the cases might not actually be from Samsung. In fact, we can find official Samsung Kindsuit cases for the Galaxy S25 series but not for the Galaxy S26 anymore, as commenters have also pointed out. So these new Kindsuit cases could potentially be from another copycat manufacturer, although the importer listed on the back—Samsung Investment Co. LTD—is actually Samsung’s subsidiary in China, which strongly suggests that this might be the real deal after all. Whether the name “Galaxy New Fold” will be the final marketing name or not remains to be seen. In any case, it would be unusual for Samsung to move away from its Galaxy Z series, which has been the home of all Samsung foldables since the Galaxy Z Flip in 2020.
