Framework Laptop 13 Pro has one of the brightest IPS touchscreens we've seen at almost 800 nits

The Framework Laptop 13 Pro introduces a new chassis design when compared to the older Laptop 13.5. Otherwise, both models share many of the same internal components to maintain the high repairability factor that the series is known for. One of these components is the 3:2 13.5-inch IPS display as both models share the same 120 Hz refresh rate, native 2880 x 1920 resolution, full sRGB colors, and ~2000:1 contrast ratio for a similar viewing experience between them.

There are nonetheless a small handful of updates to the display including to maximum brightness. While the display on the older Laptop 13.5 would top out at around 500 nits, the IPS display on the Laptop 13 Pro can reach almost 800 nits. The brightest spot on our test unit, for example, can reach 773 nits which is actually brighter than the advertised target of 700 nits. When considering that most IPS displays on laptops tend to fall between 300 nits and 600 nits, the new Framework system is easily one of the brightest.

To be fair, some HP Elite laptops offer brighter 1000-nit options to maximize outdoor visibility. However, these often come with some key caveats including lower contrast ratios, more limited viewing angles, and worse brightness distributions for a poorer viewing experience.

It's worth noting that despite having such a bright IPS display, the Laptop 13 Pro still doesn't support HDR much like on its predecessor. This can be attributed to the IPS panel itself which can't typically meet the stringent black level requirements for proper HDR playback. Framework has avoided offering any OLED options ever since the original Laptop 13.5 back in 2021.
