Framework announces new Framework Laptop 12 with Linux massively outselling Windows SKU

Framework recently launched the new Framework Laptop 12. The portable 2-in-1 convertible laptop brings a 12.2-inch touch display and some much-requested features. Check out our full launch coverage to learn more details, as there is some exciting stuff going on with the Framework Laptop 12. One such thing is that you can order both a pre-built Framework Laptop 12 with the Fedora Linux operating system and Windows.
During its official unveiling, Framework revealed that most Framework Laptop 12 users were running Linux on the old model. So, it makes sense that Framework offers a version that comes pre-installed with Fedora. The move seems to have resonated super well with the community, as the Framework Laptop 12 with Fedora is reportedly outselling the Windows version by a wide margin.
Framework reports on X that the Framework Laptop 12 with Fedora is selling at a >10:1 rate compared to Windows. So, for every one updated Framework Laptop 12 with Windows, the company sells 10+ Fedora-based Laptop 12 units.
Framework declares this development "the year of the Linux desktop". While this might sound hyperbole to some, it is no secret that users are increasingly considering or switching over to Linux from Windows. Even gamers are getting tempted by the improved gaming on Linux, thanks to Valve's efforts with the SteamOS.
If you also want to get your hands on one, Framework is now accepting pre-orders for the Core Series 3 Wildcat Lake mainboards and prebuilt units. The entry-level Intel Core 3 304 costs $299. A full prebuilt Framework Laptop 12 starts at $699 with the Core 3 304 CPU, 8 GB of RAM, and 512 GB of storage. Of course, you can bring your own RAM and M. 2 2230 SSD (get one on Amazon).
Both the prebuilt systems and Intel Core Series 3 mainboards will start shipping in October.
