When the original Framework Laptop launched last year, one of its key promises was the ability for owners to upgrade to newer processors with just a simple swap of the motherboard. The manufacturer is standing firm on its claims with the 2022 refresh.

The AMD Zen 4 U-series platform makes the Intel Core P-series look obsolete. Unless if you value one or two very specific Intel features, then the new AMD Framework should be a no-brainer for most users.

The name may be generic, but the design is anything but. The environmentally-friendly Laptop 16 takes everything great about the Laptop 13.5 and bumps it up a notch with even more upgradeable and customizable components including a removable Radeon RDNA 3 GPU.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
Intel Iris Xe G7 96EUs: Integrated graphics card in Intel Tiger Lake G4 SoCs based on the new Gen. 12 architecture with 96 EUs (Execution Units / Shader Cluster). The clock rate depends on the processor model. The Tiger Lake chips are produced in the modern 10nm+ process at Intel.
AMD Radeon 780M: Integrated graphics card in the Ryzen 7040 mobile series APUs based on the RDNA3 architecture with 12 CUs (= 768 shaders) and a clock speed of up to 3 GHz.
With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.
AMD Radeon RX 7700S: Fast mid-range mobile graphics card based on the RDNA 3 architecture. Offers 2,048 cores (32 CUs) at a TDP of up to 100 Watt. Uses the Navi 33 chip that is manufactured in 6nm at TSMC.

Intel Tiger Lake:
i7-1165G7: An upper mid-range, quad-core processor of Tiger Lake product family. The i7 is designed for use in ultra-light (yet actively cooled) laptops; it is manufactured on Intel's third-gen 10 nm process marketed as SuperFin. The CPU cores run at 2.8 GHz (base clock speed @ 28 W TDP) to 4.7 GHz (single-core Boost frequency). This i7 features the 96 EU Intel Iris Xe G7 iGPU; it was the second-fastest CPU of TGL-UP3 line-up when Intel initially launched the series in 2020.
Intel Alder Lake-P:
i7-1260P: An upper mid-range Alder Lake family CPU featuring 4 performance cores and 8 efficient cores. This 28 W SoC is designed for use in ultra-light (yet actively cooled) laptops. Core i7-1260P's performance cores are Hyper-Threading-enabled for a total of 16 threads. This 12th Gen CPU runs at 1.5 GHz to 4.7 GHz and supports "Essentials" tier vPro features. Last but not the least, Core i7-1260P has a built-in 96 EU Iris Xe GPU, not unlike certain 11th Gen Tiger Lake-UP3 processors.
Intel Raptor Lake-P:
i7-1370P: The high-end Alder Lake-P CPU featuring 6 performance cores and 8 efficient cores. This i7 is designed for use in ultra-light laptops; its performance cores feature the thread-doubling Hyper-Threading technology for whopping 20 threads in total. The CPU runs at upd to 5.2 GHz and has the "Enterprise" tier vPro feature set. Core i7-1370P has a base power of 28 W and the 96 EU Iris Xe iGPU.
i7-1360P: Raptor Lake-P based CPU with a TDP of 28 Watt. Offers 4 performance cores and 8 efficiency cores and therefore 16 threads.
AMD Phoenix (Zen 4, Ryzen 7040):
R7 7840U: A powerful laptop processor (APU) of the Phoenix product family. Its eight Zen 4 cores run at 3.3 GHz to 5.1 GHz and are SMT-enabled for a total of 16 processing threads. The great Radeon 780M is responsible for 3D processing and similar duties; the 7840U also features Ryzen AI which is AMD's answer to Intel's GNA and DL Boost.
R9 7940HS: A powerful Phoenix family APU. Its 8 cores are powered by the Zen 4 architecture and are SMT-enabled for a total of 16 processing threads. 4.0 GHz is the base clock speed and the highest Boost clock speed achievable is 5.2 GHz. The 7940HS introduces Ryzen AI which is AMD's answer to Intel's DL Boost and GNA technologies; the Radeon 780M serves as the integrated graphics adapter.
