Asus already offered special versions of their devices in the past and the ACRNM edition of the ROG Flow Z13 with its industrial metal design was a stunner. It was also equipped with the RTX 4070, which was not available in the regular version of the gaming convertible. The manufacturer now offers a new special edition called ROG Flow Z13-KJP, which was developed in collaboration with Kojima Productions and uses a Stranding Death design.
Even though the visual changes are not as striking as on the ACRNM edition, the new model with a golden rear and carbon fiber elements still differs quite a lot from the regular ROG Flow Z13. You also get a corresponding hard case, which might not be very practical, but it looks very cool. Asus also offers corresponding accessories like a headset or a mouse and the PC version of Death Stranding 2 is included.
In terms of hardware, there are no differences compared to the previous ROG Flow Z13, so the new special edition still uses the familiar AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 (Strix Halo) with 16 Zen 5 cores and the powerful Radeon 8060S GPU. This special edition is only sold with 128 GB RAM. We just tested this exact hardware combination in Asus' other new special edition, the ProArt PX13 GoPro edition. It also utilizes a different design, but the changes are more subtle compared to the standard model.
In terms of performance, the new AMD chip offers much more multi-core CPU power, but the graphics as well as gaming performance is pretty much identical to the old GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop. The AMD model still has the edge in titles that require a lot of VRAM since the Radeon 8060S can use the system memory. It can also make sense to allocate a certain amount for the GPU (32 GB, for example), which can easily be done via MyAsus app. Please see our review of the new ProArt PX13 GoPro edition for more information.
We would have liked to see a model with one of the new Nvidia GPUs as well, but the additional cost for a special edition most likely prevented that. Overall, we are big fans of special editions and hope that more manufacturers will offer them in the future.
