128 GB RAM monster with SteamOS: Asus ROG Flow Z13-KJP gaming tablet proves to be plenty fast for AAA gaming

The Acer ROG Flow Z13-KJP gaming tablet is a special edition of the ROG Flow Z13 with a design inspired by Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding. This collaboration has minted a beastly gaming tablet with 128 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, 1 TB of storage, and the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 Strix Halo APU. While the tablet will come with Windows 11 out of the box, ETA Prime has tested the machine with the SteamOS, and the results are quite convincing.
Configured with a 70 W TDP and allocated 64 GB of RAM, the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 powering the ROG Flow Z13-KJP ran the benchmarked titles without breaking a sweat. In Arc Raider, the ROG Flow Z13-KJP reportedly managed 80+ FPS at 1440p/high settings without FSR. Elden Ring also ran quite well, as the ROG Flow Z13-KJP played the game at 60 FPS at 1440p/Max settings without FSR.
Similarly, God of War Ragnarok also ran smoothly, with 80+ FPS at 1440p/Ultra settings and FSR Quality.
As we’ve seen with other examples in the past, some games can perform better on SteamOS vs Windows 11. ETA Prime reports that Cyberpunk 2077, for example, enjoys 12 FPS more on average on the ROG Flow Z13-KJP with SteamOS than with Windows. However, the opposite seems to be true with Death Stranding, where the game performs worse with SteamOS. So, Strix Halo’s inconsistent performance on SteamOS vs Windows indicates that drivers need some additional work.
Asus ROG Flow Z13-KJP battery life
As we mentioned in our review of the vanilla ROG Flow Z13, Asus has improved the battery life of the ROG Flow Z13 by packing a bigger 70 Wh cell. In our testing, the ROG Flow Z13 lasted over 6 hours in our WLAN test at 40% brightness.
ETA Prime has also done some battery life testing during gaming at 50% screen brightness. While playing a light 2D game with an 8 W TDP, the ROG Flow Z13-KJP reportedly lasts around 5 hours. The runtime drops to 1 hour and 30 minutes and less than 1 hour when running a AAA game at 45 W and 70 W, respectively.
In short, the Asus ROG Flow Z13-KJP is a beast of a gaming tablet with or without Windows. Sadly, it is only available with 128 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage and is super expensive. You can pre-order the ROG Flow Z13-KJP on Asus’ store for a whopping $3,699.99. Shipping is set to start from March 3rd.
If you don’t care about the Hideo Kojima special edition and the 128 GB of RAM, you can get the vanilla Asus ROG Flow Z13 with 32 GB of RAM, 1 TB of storage, and the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 for $2,200 on Amazon. The gaming tablet also comes with a free copy of Crimson Desert.
