FromSoftware recently shifted to co-op gameplay with Elden Ring: Nightreign. It will also release the multiplayer The Duskbloods for the Switch 2 in 2026. However, some fans would prefer that the Japanese developer return to its single-player roots. According to MP1st, another unannounced title is in the works, with the codename "FMC". While details are scarce, the next FromSoftware game is multiplatform and could arrive by 2026 or sooner.
Kurakasis from MP1st explains how FromSoftware uses a private coding system to identify projects. The leaker previously reported that Elden Ring: Nightreign relied on the "CL" abbreviation, which was later verified. While Kurakasis doesn't know the lettering for The Duskbloods, he thinks "FMC" is unlikely to refer to the Switch 2 game.
Since codenames with "F" have represented Dark Souls games in the past, the mysterious title may be Dark Souls 3 Remastered. In November 2024, XboxEra insider Nick Baker revealed that FromSoftware may look to modernize the 2016 title. That said, the developer could have something more unexpected in store for fans.
Skeptics have already dismissed the idea of more than a few FromSoftware games in development simultaneously. Still, the successful studio's parent company Kadokawa Corporation had expanded by the end of 2024. It reportedly was working on 26 titles for consoles and mobile devices. FromSoftware President Hidetaka Miyazaki wasn't involved with most. Still, the added resources could allow the developer to increase its output.
Even if Dark Souls 3 Remastered is the most likely scenario, gamers are making some wild guesses as to what "FMC" stands for. If the game is an original concept, there are reasons to believe it will primarily offer a solo challenge. An April 2025 Nintendo interview questioned Miyazaki on his recent focus on multiplayer. He then assured audiences that more single-player titles were on the way.
