It has been a while since FromSoftware announced it was working on DLC for Elden Ring (US$44 on Amazon). Unfortunately, in true FromSoftware fashion, it didn't reveal anything except its name: Shadow of the Erdtree. Those looking forward to seeing it anytime soon will be sorely disappointed, as confirmed by a developer associated with the project.
In an interview with Japanese news outlet Game Watch, FromSoftware's Yasuhiro Kitao said Shadow of the Erdtree development was moving along nicely, but it'll be a while before it launched. Among other things, it will bring "new battles and characters". Kitao compares it to Bloodborne's The Old Hunters DLC, indicating that we could get an entirely new map section and tough-as-nails boss fights.
At best, we might get a glimpse of Shadow of the Erdtree at The Game Awards on December 7. Given the lack of information, a late 2024/early 2025 release date seems plausible. This is the longest FromSoftware has ever taken to launch a DLC, presumably due to resources being diverted to Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon.
