Elden Ring mobile: Tencent supposedly plans to make FromSoftware's RPG playable on smartphones
FromSoftware's silence about Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC has forced eager gamers to look at other avenues for a tentative launch date. It is around the corner, as some supposed promotional material lists its launch/announcement date as February 25. However, that might not be the only Elden Ring-related material in store, as the game is reportedly headed to mobile.
Sources familiar with the matter told Reuters (via Eurogamer) that Tencent plans to bring the critically acclaimed RPG to mobile. Unlike recent releases like Resident Evil IV and Death Stranding, which were ported to Apple devices as is, Elden Ring ($49 on Amnazon) mobile will be completely redesigned and take a few pages out of Genshin Impact's playbook. Elden Ring is filled to the brim with complex mechanics and interactions. Many will not make it to the mobile version because smartphones don't pack as much processing power as a PC/console.
Plus, the game is said to be free-to-play and includes microtransactions. Given Tencent's track record, they're unlikely to be cosmetic-only, further distancing it from the source material. Nevertheless, Elden Ring mobile is quite some time away from an announcement, let alone a release, as its development is "slow". Then again, if rumours about Shadow of the Erdtree's scope are accurate, players will have plenty of content to keep them occupied until the game eventually lands on Android and iOS.
