Elden Ring: Nightreign, the co-op-focused spin-off from FromSoftware, has sold over 2 million copies on its first day, publisher Bandai Namco confirmed. The announcement, made via the official Elden Ring X account, celebrated the milestone with a message reading, “Darkness fell over Limveld, and two million Nightfarers rose up against it.”
Despite the co-op focus, where groups of three are required, the spin-off’s strong day-one sales highlight Elden Ring’s appeal. As reported earlier, ER fans were concerned about the lack of crossplay functionality at launch. Another point of skepticism was the absence of a two-player mode - so players either had to form a trio or go solo. To add to that, some players pointed out that because the game has a co-op-centric design, going solo was punishing.
To counter this, Bandai Namco has announced that patch 1.02 will arrive next week to address some of the player concerns. The upcoming update promises significant quality-of-life improvements for solo players, including an Automatic Revival Upon Defeat mechanic, granting one free revival per night boss battle, and an increase in rune rewards when playing alone.
Along with the impressive sales, Elden Ring: Nightreign also has an equally impressive player count. As per Steam DB, the player count peaked at 313,593, and the game currently tops the ‘Trending Games’ chart. However, the game still has ‘mixed’ reviews on Steam and a 77/100 rating on Metacritic.
While Elden Ring Nightreign’s impressive first-day sales position it ahead of many recent releases, it remains to be seen if it can maintain momentum. For comparison, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion sold 5 million copies within three days in 2024, and the original Elden Ring has moved over 30 million units since 2022.
Elden Ring: Nightreign is out now and is available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X and S, and Xbox One. Currently, there's a 15% discount on the game for a limited time.
