Vivo X Flip lands with 3-inch cover display and Sony IMX866V primary camera
Vivo has introduced the X Flip, its first entry in the increasingly popular clamshell foldable market. As expected, the Vivo X Flip relies on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset, as well as 12 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of storage. Unsurprisingly, Vivo has equipped the X Flip with a larger cover display than the Galaxy Z Flip4.
Specifically, the Vivo X Flip has a 3-inch cover display that operates at 682 x 422 pixels. As Vivo's marketing images show, the cover display can show information from various first-party apps, albeit seemingly only in landscape orientation. Thus, some third-party apps may not scale properly, unlike on the Oppo Find N2 Flip.
Additionally, the Vivo X Flip has a 6.74-inch AMOLED display that outputs at 2,520 x 1,080 pixels with a 120 Hz refresh rate. It is worth noting that the display lacks support for 1 Hz or 10 Hz refresh rates. Instead, the X Flip can only lower its display refresh rate to 60 Hz. Still, the foldable's hinge allows it to close without a visible gap and its 4,400 mAh battery can recharge at up to 44 W.
Moreover, the X Flip features the Sony IMX866V as its primary camera, which outputs at 50 MP with a 1/1.49-inch optical format, an f/1.75 aperture, OIS and a Zeiss lens. Also, the handset has a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 32 MP front-facing camera that sits behind a punch-hole in the X Flip's foldable display. For some reason, the X Flip is rather hefty, with Vivo quoting a 199 g weight.
The X Flip starts at CNY 5,999 (~US$871) with 256 GB of storage. Alternatively, the handset is available with 512 GB of storage for CNY 6,699 (~US$973). Vivo has not confirmed whether it intends to offer the X Flip globally yet, though.
