The releases of the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5 are still months away. Nonetheless, Ross Young has provided new details about the pair, only a few days after revealing colour options for both devices. According to Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), Samsung will offer the Galaxy Z Flip5 in more colours than its Fold counterpart.
Additionally, Samsung is expected to distinguish the Galaxy Z Flip5 from its predecessor in more ways than the Galaxy Z Fold5. Based on earlier leaks, Samsung will base the Galaxy Z Fold5 around more or less the same design as the Galaxy Z Fold4. The newer handset is rumoured to eliminate its predecessor's foldable display gap though, thanks to a revised hinge solution. Writing on Twitter, Young claims that the Galaxy Z Fold5 will retain its predecessor's 6.2-inch cover display, including its unusual aspect ratio. The Galaxy Z Fold5 is rumoured to weigh 254 g too, 9 g less than its predecessor.
In comparison, the Galaxy Z Flip5 will feature a new cover display design and not the letterbox 1.9-inch panel found in earlier models. Previously, it was alleged that Samsung would include a 3.8-inch panel, which @UniverseIce demonstrated would be improbable. Subsequently, Young clarified that the Galaxy Z Flip5 will offer a 3.4-inch cover display, although one of the display films spans 3.8-inches. Young adds that Samsung Display will begin shipping Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5 panels in May. However, Samsung Electronics will not begin mass producing the pair until June and will work towards similar release timings as last year.
