Samsung's tradition of launching ultra-premium versions of its latest foldable smartphones as Chinese-market exclusives is now thought to continue in 2023 with the new "W24" series. They are slated to debut as even higher-end versions of the rumored Galaxy Z Fold5 and Flip5 - however, should that be the case, it seems they will fail to upgrade in one potentially significant respect.

The Samsung W23 and W23 Flip are the only version of the Galaxy Z Fold4 and Flip4 with 12GB and 16GB of RAM respectively (and also the only types of either finished in black and gold) - however, they are sold through specific channels in China only. Now, the first piece of evidence for successors of both devices has reportedly emerged.

It comes in the form of a new 3C registration for the SM-W7024 and SM-W9024: model numbers that invite speculation that they are for a W24 Flip and W24 respectively. They are also, of course, thought to launch as elaborately customized and upgraded counterparts of the Z Flip5 and Fold5 respectively - however, should that be the case, they might disappoint potential customers in one aspect of their specs.

3C has tested the putative W-series 2023 flagships with the ubiquitous Samsung EP-TA800 power brick, and has found that neither upcoming foldable device is capable of charging at more than 25 watts (W). Therefore, this leak may also be a potential indication that the Fold5 and Flip5 themselves are also stuck on this rate, whereas rivals such as the Vivo X Flip/Fold line-up had already moved beyond them to 44W+ technology by 2022.
