Samsung rumoured to add dust proofing to Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5
Samsung has now confirmed that it will showcase new foldables next month. As we have discussed separately, the company has not disclosed what smartphones it will announce. Instead, it has teased that it has scheduled its 27th Galaxy Unpacked event in Seoul during the final week of July. Currently, it is thought to have developed the Galaxy Z Fold5 and Galaxy Z Flip5, which are now said to be dust proof, a major change from last year's models.
For context, Motorola has already achieved this feat on the Razr 40 Ultra, known as the Razr+ in North America. However, the handset's IP52 certification means that it can only withstand minor splashes. Conversely, Samsung is rumoured to have certified the Galaxy Z Fold5 and Galaxy Z Flip5 as IP58. If this is the case, then the pair will be the company's first foldables that are officially protected against dust ingress.
Please note that 'IP5' does not mean that the pair will be dust tight like Samsung's other flagships. Samsung must have taken the necessary steps to prevent dust and foreign particles from interfering with the operation of either device. By contrast, the Galaxy Z Fold5 and Galaxy Z Flip5 will match their predecessors by being rated for immersion in at least one metre of water for over 30 minutes.
