CNBC claims to have obtained new information about the Pixel Fold ahead of its anticipated launch. According to the broadcaster, the Pixel Fold will have a 7.69-inch foldable display, as well as a 5.8-inch cover display. Additionally, CNBC asserts that internal documents list the Pixel Fold's weight as 283 g, 1 g heavier than the Galaxy Z Fold2 and nearly 30 g heavier than this year's Galaxy Z Fold5. Potentially, this could be because of the Pixel Fold's waterproofing, which is still not a given for foldable smartphones.
CNBC states that Google will market the Pixel Fold as having the 'the most durable hinge on a foldable' and 24 hours of battery life with its Tensor G2 chipset. Supposedly, the Pixel Fold will cost 'upward of US$1,700', roughly US$100 cheaper than earlier leaks suggested. Still, a US$1,699 launch price would put the Pixel Fold on par with the Galaxy Z Fold4 as one of the most expensive foldables available outside China. Moreover, Google plans to run a trade-in campaign for the Pixel Fold against 'current Pixel, iPhone' or Android smartphones.
CNBC adds that Google hopes to make the Pixel Fold more enticing by offering a complimentary Pixel Watch with pre-orders, repeating a move that it employed for the Pixel 7 Pro. It remains to be seen whether this bonus will be a global or North American exclusive, though. As we discussed earlier this week, Google is expected to present the Pixel Fold on May 10 during its I/O 2023 keynote alongside the Pixel 7a and the Pixel Tablet. However, only the Pixel 7a may be orderable from next month, with the Pixel Fold allegedly not shipping until June.
