The Cupertino giant has unveiled the next generation of its TV arm. However, it is not a device; rather, it is a software- and content-based upgrade. The new Apple TV app allows users to cherry-pick channels or streaming providers at need. They could also add Apple TV Plus: the company's new panel of original shows available via subscription.

Apple held an event in Cupertino today (March 25, 2019) to unveil some new products and services. As expected based on several rumors, some of those were TV-related. The company announced its new app for such content, Apple TV Channels. This is a new update to the existing Apple TV software that enables the addition of an apparently wdie range of services, which could be derived from conventional sources or be streaming-based, to a singular app.

Therefore, if a user wants to see, for example, American Gods, they can add a subscription to Amazon Prime to the Apple TV app. Apple claims that this new form of Apple TV will be private and secure, in that the company will not keep records of what the individual user watches or orders. It will also be made available in over 100 countries and regions.

Apple also launched its own new, ad-free subscrption-based service today. It will be known as Apple TV Plus, and not Front Row as some leaks had suggested. It will be populated with new, original shows and content, such as a new production starring Alfre Woodward and Jason Momoa with the premise that humanity has had to learn to live without vision following a viral endemic.

This new service will be available in the second half of 2019. Finally, Apple says these new services will be playable on a range of platforms, from mobile devices to living-room screens.
