Cryptic clues: Xiaomi to launch a double-sided TV on April 23?
Xiaomi is increasingly pushing its smartphones into more markets with the likes of the Mi 9 and the Redmi Note 7 getting worldwide releases. The Chinese manufacturer is not content on stopping there though and has plans to expand its line of reasonably priced TVs beyond China too. Now, Li Xiaoshuang, the General Manager of its Mi TV Division, has teased a new product launch on social networks in China.
Currently, Xiaomi sells the Mi TV 4, the Mi TV 3s and the Mi TV 3s Curve, all of which have 65-inch screens. The Chinese company sells an Android TV box and a 150-inch laser projector under its Mi TV series too. However, the company is just days away from announcing a new Smart TV and potentially several other new TVs too, if reports from China are to be believed.
These come after Xiaoshuang posted a teaser that the company is hosting a launch event on April 23 in Beijing, although it has given no further details at the time of writing. Interestingly, the promotional image hints that whatever will be announced will be "double-sided art", which has led some people on Chinese forums to speculate about whether Xiaomi has a double-sided TV in the works. That would be mighty ambitious and would probably have limited use considering where most TVs are placed in rooms, which tend to be positioned with their backs facing a wall to hide any cables. We would not rule out the possibility of Xiaomi having something reasonably priced up its sleeve that will get people clamouring to purchase it, so watch out for the announcement on Tuesday.
