Razer Blade 16 (2024) reviewed: Battle of the flagship displays
The new Razer Blade 16 is now available to purchase. We tested the flagship model with an i9-14900HX, an RTX 4090 and a new Samsung OLED display. Has Razer managed to make an even better laptop out of its already good one? We'll give you the answer.

In general, it isn't clear whether many laptops will be sold this year, as there have hardly been any hardware improvements made when it comes to processor and graphics card performance. Okay, Intel has released its new Gen14 CPUs around Raptor Lake Refresh, but as our analysis showed, these are hardly faster than Intel's Gen-13 GPUs. Aside from its Super models, Nvidia hasn't released any new graphics cards anyway—at least no new generation, leading to laptops updating their CPUs but not their GPUs. Not to mention that the CPU can't even promise a huge boost in performance.

So, what are you supposed to do as a laptop manufacturer to, on the one hand, fulfil your obligatory yearly update responsibilities, while also still making them relevant? For Razer, the answer lies in its display. During CES, the manufacturer focused all of its marketing on the new Samsung OLED in particular. However, last year's Blade 16 already had great displays in the form of bright Mini-LED ones—so, is OLED even that much better?

In our review of the flagship Razer Blade 16 with an i9-14900HX and an RTX 4090, we went on the hunt for answers. Purely from a technical standpoint, the OLED isn't quite as bright (400 nits instead of 700 nits). In turn, its Delta-E values (grayscale deviations) have become smaller and it now shows slightly improved color space coverage (AdobeRGB), whereby the display options can cover sRGB and DCI-P3 completely. Last year's Mini-LED panel showed weaknesses when transitioning from black to white in particular. At 1 ms, the OLED is super fast.

In our detailed review of the 2024 Blade 16, you can read about what performance boost Intel's Gen 14 brings and what other advancements Razer has come up with.
