Indian actor Anushka Sharma has been spotted using what appears to be the OnePlus Open, the company's long-awaited and first foldable smartphone. It is worth noting that OnePlus has not verified the footage. However, the actor's clumsy unfolding of the device implies that it was a marketing gimmick rather than something inadvertent or accidental.
Leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks) suggests as much on Twitter too, asserting that the disclosure was 'obviously on purpose', adding that no one would pose with an 'ultra secret prototype' in public. As far as we can tell, Sharma is not using the OnePlus Open either. Instead, it seems as though both displays remain switched off at all times, lending credence to the idea that OnePlus asked Sharma for her to be seen with the device.

Incidentally, the OnePlus Open shown below looks much taller than @OnLeaks' most recent renders. As we discussed at the time, these renders suggested that the OnePlus Open would be a direct successor to the Oppo Find N2 that remains a Chinese exclusive. Surprisingly, the phone looks more like @OnLeaks' earlier renders, which the leaker subsequently disavowed. As such, the OnePlus Open is closer in design to the Galaxy Z Fold5 than the Pixel Fold, which has a more akin to a Moleskine's form factor.
Moreover, OnePlus has partnered with Unbox Therapy to showcase some elements of its first foldable smartphone. Principally, the pair discuss the device's hinge, albeit without referring to it by name. Still, the video confirms that the OnePlus Open has a large cover display and a mute switch. Currently, OnePlus is expected to launch the OnePlus Open globally on October 19.
