OnePlus 12 rumoured to feature new Sony IMX966, 64 MP telephoto and 32 MP front-facing camera upgrades
Digital Chat Station (DCS) claims to have obtained final information about the state of the OnePlus 12's camera system. Supposedly, the forthcoming device will launch with at least three upgraded sensors, including its front-facing camera. According to DCS, OnePlus has settled on a 32 MP sensor for the OnePlus 12's front-facing camera, twice the resolution of the equivalent in the OnePlus 11.
While the leaker has not disclosed which sensor underpins the former's front-facing camera, they have shared more details about OnePlus' rear-facing camera upgrades. Specifically, the OnePlus 12 is said to rely upon the Sony IMX966 as its primary camera, a 50 MP sensor that replaces the IMX890. For reference, although the output resolution is unchanged from the OnePlus 11, the IMX966 has a 1/1.4-inch optical format compared to 1/1.56-inch for the IMX890.
Also, the IMX966 has a larger aperture at f/1.7, as well as a wider 23 mm equivalent focal length. Meanwhile, DCS claims that an Omnivision OV64B will be behind the OnePlus 12's telephoto camera, a 64 MP and 1/2-inch sensor that OnePlus will combine with a lens array to deliver a 70 mm equivalent focal length and 3x optical zoom. By contrast, the 48 MP ultra-wide-angle camera from the OnePlus 11 is expected to return for the OnePlus 12. Currently, the OnePlus 12 is anticipated for a global release in January 2024, with its debut reportedly scheduled for a month earlier in China.
