Lenovo Yoga Slim 7-14ARE
The latest to join the Lenovo family is the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7-14ARE laptop. As far as the design is concerned, this laptop is entirely built out of aluminium, with the display featuring an optional glass cover. Interestingly, the glass cover reduces the profile of the device to 14.9mm (15.1mm for the standard version) and increases the weight to 1.40 kg (1.33 kg for the standard version). However, it should be noted that the thin body carries the disadvantage of less structural integrity. Although there is some visible flex to the machine when some force is applied, there are no significant squeaky sounds noticeable. The lid can be opened with one hand, and it has a slight protrusion (or a notch), which makes it rather easy to lift. In addition, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 seems to be pretty resistant to axial forces, which might be due to the glass cover. In terms of its keyboard, the key travel is a little short, but the feedback is clicky, making it not exceptionally comfortable while using it. However, the overall size of the keycaps is good. Apart from that, the Up and Down arrow keys are still halved, and they house the Page Up and Down keys through a combination with the Function button.
A small touchpad is situated just below the keyboard, with a glass surface and great gliding properties. Additionally, it has natural levels of resistance when clicked, thus making it really comfortable and seamless to use. It is also worth noting that Lenovo has retained front-firing speakers on this laptop. The Power button is located on the right side of the device, which also serves as an optional fingerprint reader. The bottom plate houses the ventilation grills, while the heat is driven away from two cut-outs located between the lid and the base.
As far as connectivity is concerned, there is a single USB Type-C port that can be used for charging and data transfer, an HDMI-2.0b connector (supporting 4096 x 2160p at 60 Hz), another USB Type-C 3.1 (Gen-2) port that can also be used for charging and supports DisplayPort 1.4b output with a maximum resolution of 5120 x 2880p at 60 Hz, and lastly an audio jack on the left side of the device. In contrast, on the right, there is the Power button/fingerprint reader combo, two USB Type-A 3.1 (Gen-1) ports, and a MicroSD reader. However, there is no Thunderbolt connection on the AMD version (despite the label next to the second Type-C port suggesting otherwise), as this technology is currently still reserved for Intel devices. In terms of its display, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 sports a Full-HD IPS display. The maximum measured brightness is 270 nits (cd/m2) in the middle of the screen, with 268 nits (cd/m2) average across the surface and a maximum deviation of only 5%. Overall, this laptop definitely deserves exploration, although depending on the need of the users.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 proves to be an all-rounder. It has a fairly decent screen, doesn’t heat up, works well with multiple apps and browsers, has good Dolby tuned stereo speakers, features all the basic ports and has amazing battery life. If you want a laptop that is a bang for the buck, this comes really close. At ₹78,990 this seems to have it all. Unfortunately, there’s just one variant available if you specifically want to go for the AMD chipset version. The Yoga Slim 7i (Intel version) is also there with several iterations based on different storage and RAM capacities. However, considering the fact that Intel 11th-gen is still at 10nm (for laptops) and AMD 4000 Series is at 7nm, makes the latter a bit more efficient in terms of balancing power and battery.

With a starting price of RM3499, I think this is an excellent laptop for work and creating contents. Personally, I totally love the battery performance and dual stereo speakers. The face unlock feature and the auto-brightness adjustment are nice additions as well. If you want to play some games, it's still fine but just not Triple-A video game titles. Laptops like this are generally quite expensive and could go over the RM5K mark easily, but if compared with the Lenovo ThinkBook 14 which we reviewed earlier this year, I would prefer the Yoga Slim 7.

At the same time, don't expect this to feel as premium or offer all the bells and whistles available on 2000+ USD/EUR ultraportables, because it doesn't. This is more or less exactly the experience you’d expect from looking at the laptop—a travel-ready and long-lasting system that feels good in hand. Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" from English legend, novo (Latin) for new) was founded in 1984 as a Chinese computer trading company. As of 2004, the company was the largest laptop manufacturer in China and, after acquiring IBM's PC division in 2005, the fourth largest in the world. In addition to desktops and notebooks, the company manufactures monitors, projectors, servers, etc, and specializes in developing, manufacturing and marketing consumer electronics, personal computers, software, enterprise solutions and related services.
In 2016, the company ranked first in the world in computer sales. It still held it in 2023 with about 23% global market share. Important product lines are Thinkpad, Legion and Ideapad.
In 2011, it acquired a majority stake in Medion AG, a European computer hardware manufacturer. In 2014, Motorola Mobility was purchased, which gave Lenovo a boost in the smartphone market.

Intel Arc 8-Cores: Integrated graphics card based on the Xe LPG architecture (similar to the dedicated Arc GPUs, but with a focus on efficiency). Provides all 8 Xe cores (128 Xe vector engines) and 8 ray tracing units.

AMD Renoir (Ryzen 4000 APU):
R7 4800U: Mobile Octa-Core APU using Zen 2 cores clocked at 1.8 to 4.2 GHz and a Vega graphics card with 8 CUs clocked at up to 1750 MHz. Compared to the faster 4800H, the 4800U has a lower TDP and base clock, but the graphics card is faster.
R7 4700U: A mobile Octa-Core APU with Zen 2 cores clocked at 2 to 4.1 GHz and a Vega graphics adapter with 7 CUs clocked at up to 1600 MHz. Compared to the faster 4800U, the 4700U offers a slightly lower boost clock speed and does not support SMT.
R5 4500U: An upper mid-range, hexa-core APU designed for use in thinner, lighter laptops. The Ryzen features Zen 2 CPU cores running at 2.3 GHz to 4.0 GHz along with the Vega 6 graphics adapter (6 x 64 = 384 unified shaders). The thread-doubling SMT technology is not enabled in the case of Ryzen 5 4500U.
Intel Ice Lake:
i7-1065G7: Ice Lake-based quad-core processor for thin and light laptops. The four cores are clocked at 1.3 GHz to 3.9 GHz and should offer 18% more IPC (instructions per clock) than the previous generations (and therefore partly close the clock speed gap). Produced on first-gen 10 nm Intel process.
i5-1035G4: A low-power, Ice Lake family processor (SoC) featuring 4 cores, 8 threads, 6 MB of L3 cache and the Iris Plus G4 (48 EUs) iGPU. This Core i5 saw the light of day in H2 2019; it is designed for use in highly portable consumer laptops. The CPU cores run at 1.1 GHz to 3.7 GHz. i5-1135G7: A quad-core, mid-range processor of Tiger Lake product family designed for use in ultra-light laptops. The i5 is manufactured on Intel's second-gen 10 nm process marketed as SuperFin and features an 80 EU Iris Xe G7 iGPU. Core i5-1135G7 has a base clock speed of 2.4 GHz as long as it is allowed to consume 28 watts.
i7-1165G7: An upper mid-range, quad-core processor of Tiger Lake product family. The i7 is designed for use in ultra-light (yet actively cooled) laptops; it is manufactured on Intel's third-gen 10 nm process marketed as SuperFin. The CPU cores run at 2.8 GHz (base clock speed @ 28 W TDP) to 4.7 GHz (single-core Boost frequency). This i7 features the 96 EU Intel Iris Xe G7 iGPU; it was the second-fastest CPU of TGL-UP3 line-up when Intel initially launched the series in 2020.
Intel Intel Meteor Lake-H:
Ultra 7 155H: A high-end Meteor Lake chip that debuted in December 2023. This 1st Gen Core Ultra processor has come to replace 13th generation Core chips; it has 16 cores (6 + 8 + 2) and 22 threads at its disposal. Its Performance cores, of which there are 6, run at up to 4.8 GHz while its Efficient cores, of which there are 10 (8 main cores plus 2 extra ones found in the Low Power Island) run at up to 3.8 GHz. The integrated AI Boost NPU offers two Gen 3 engines for hardware AI workload acceleration. This laptop processor's Base power consumption is 28 W while its Turbo power consumption is supposed to stay within 115 W.

14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.
