Ryzen 7 4700U Unleashed - Lenovo does not hold back the Yoga 7 Slim 14ARE05's APU
Lenovo’s Yoga Slim 7 14ARE05 is a compact 14-inch notebook that we have seen before. In fact, we already had two of its siblings in review: The Yoga Slim 7 14ARE05 (Ryzen 7 4800U) and the Yoga Slim 7 14IIL05 (Core i7-1065G7, GeForce MX350).
Today’s review unit features a Ryzen 7 4700U APU consisting of an 8-core CPU and a Vega 7 GPU. Its scope of performance can be adjusted in three stages: Intelligent Cooling, High Performance, and Battery Saver. Given that Lenovo configured the APU’s power limits very generously the CPU managed to perform our CineBench R15 loop with a consistent high turbo boost frequency. In High Performance, the device scored a consistent 1,150 points, and its 3DMark results were among the best we have ever seen a Vega 7 GPU deliver.
The APU is paired with 16 GB of dual-channel RAM. Unfortunately, RAM cannot be upgraded retroactively as it is soldered onto the motherboard and there are no unpopulated SO-DIMM slots available. In return, the installed 1 TB NVMe SSD can be expanded by a second NVMe SSD. Another benefit are the notebook’s low noise and temperature emissions regardless of load.
Battery life was pretty decent as well. The device lasted for almost 11 hours on a single charge in our Wi-Fi test. It is charged via USB-C, and the included power supply can be attached to either of the two USB-C ports (1x USB 3.2 Gen 1, 1x USB 3.2 Gen 2) as both of them support Power Delivery 3.-.
