Casio launches two new digital watches with detachable design and retro Y2K aesthetic

Casio has expanded its Baby-G lineup by releasing two new digital watches, the BGD-10KG-2JR and the BGD-10KG-4JR, in Japan. Last week, we curated the list of the Casio watches launching this July in the global market and you can read about it here. The Japanese manufacturer has gone with a Y2K aesthetic for the BGD-10 series. For those who don’t know, a Y2K aesthetic is a visual style inspired by the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Unlike the Mobile Suit Gundam x G-Shock DW-5600 with a fully translucent band, the BGD-10 series features semi-translucent bands. The BGD-10KG-2JR is available in a sea blue finish, while the BGD-10KG-4JR comes in a pink colorway. In addition to semi-translucent resin bands, both have glitter-infused dials.
Besides, these digital watches ship with a modular design. Speaking more precisely, you can detach the center digital model of the watch from the standard resin wristband and insert it into an included glitter-finished silicone holder. This holder has a dedicated strap, allowing you to clip the watch to a backpack, lanyard, or belt loop. This design definitely gives off strong Audemars Piguet x Swatch Royal Pop vibes.
Practical features include a shock-resistant structure, a 1/100-second stopwatch, world time across 29 time zones, five alarms, an LED backlight with afterglow, and a fully automatic calendar that extends up to 2099. Both models weigh around 33 grams (1.16 ounces), are waterproof up to 10 ATM, and come with 3 years of battery life.
As for price, the Casio Baby-G BGD-10KG-2JR and the BGD-10KG-4JR are priced at ¥11,550 ($71.20) each, respectively. Both watches are now available for pre-order in Japan via Casio’s official store and are expected to be released later this month. There’s no word on its global availability yet.
