Amazfit smartwatches upgrade to GPT-4o support with latest software update
Amazfit has announced that its users will be able to control their smartwatches by voice as never before with the release of Zepp OS 4.
The new software upgrade is also rated to confer the ability to speak back to the user (albeit in either English or German, with support for French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish to follow) on compatible smartwatches from its July 2024 roll-out.
On that note, Zepp OS 4 is currently only available to devices already on v3.5 - although that does include more affordable smartwatches such as the Cheetah, Balance and Active - which currently starts for under $130 on Amazon - as well as the higher-end Falcon and T-Rex Ultra models.
Amazfit also claims that those wearables' Zepp Flow assistant will also be able to do things such as help the user initiate Bluetooth calls and answer WhatsApp messages (albeit on Android only for now) hands-free thanks to their new GPT-4o integration.
Zepp OS 4 is also rated for new tricks such as the ability to control speakers from Sonos or action cameras from DJI, although those functions require their own new Amazfit mini-app per eligible smart device. Finally, the upgrade also confers a very Apple Watch Ultra-like Night Display on the smartwatches' screens.
