New DJI Osmo action camera spotted before probable summer 2024 launch to rival recent GoPro and Insta360 releases
Almost a year has passed since DJI released the Osmo Action 4 (curr. $299 on Amazon). Since then, the company has focused on its other divisions, including new RS camera gimbals. On top of that, it has introduced various drones as well like the Avata 2 and Mini 4K, which it designed for different use cases and varying price points. Incidentally, it seems that DJI is preparing to introduce a new Air-branded drone called the Air 3S,too.
While DJI has been busy with product releases since the Osmo Action 4's announcement, it has not complemented the action camera with any other models. By contrast, GoPro now has the Hero 12 Black, although this launched shortly after the Osmo Action 4. Meanwhile, Insta360 has offered up numerous competitors, which it sells as the Ace, Ace Pro, X4 and Go 3S.
However, it looks like DJI is developing a new response, which has now been certified by the UAE's Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA). Brought to our attention by the ever-reliable @Quadro_News, the first sighting of what could be DJI's next action camera does not actually reveal many specifics. Instead, it only links the model name 'AC004' to the marketing name 'Osmo Action 5 Pro'. Nonetheless, the model name could prove useful when the Osmo Action 5 Pro appears on other regulatory databases, such as the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the US. Currently, it remains unknown when DJI will also release a presumably cheaper 'Osmo Action 5'. Either way, DJI's past release schedules imply that the Osmo Action 5 series will debut this summer globally.
