After exactly one teaser and a few vague leaks, DJI has finally launched the Avinox e-bike motor system, which is coming to market in the Amflow PL dual-suspension eMTB. The DJI Avinox motor tops out at 1,000 W in Boost mode and comes with an OLED display and 800 Wh battery.

After teasing an upcoming e-bike motor and sparking plenty of speculation, DJI has finally announced its e-bike motor, which is apparently destined for eMTB applications.

The DJI Avinox motor comes equipped by default in the Amflow PL, a lightweight, dual-suspension eMTB that looks to compete with the likes of the Specialized Levo series. The main attraction of the Amflow PL, DJI's new e-bike motor system, makes claim to a few surprising specifications and features that already put it leagues ahead of where even Shimano and Bosch were when e-bikes first started becoming popular.

For starters, the DJI Avinox motor weighs in at just 2.52 kg and can boost to 1,000 W peak power for up to 30 seconds with Boost mode — instead of the normal 850 W cap. The Avinox motor is also capable of putting down 105 Nm of torque, which is a substantial improvement over the standard 85–90 Nm we're seeing in most mid- to high-range eMTB offerings.

The DJI Avinox system includes a battery, OLED display, and the motor. Avinox buyers can choose between the lighter 600 Wh battery or a heavier, but larger, 800 Wh unit — it all depends on what the preferred compromise is. With the 800 Wh battery, Amflow claims a range of up to 157 km (97.6 miles), while the 600 Wh battery should deliver in the region of 117 km (72.7 miles) on a full charge.

As is standard on most eMTBs, there are ride modes to choose from — in this case, Auto, Eco, Trail, and Turbo. Auto reads from a collection of sensors throughout the bike to determine how much assistance and support to give to the rider and when to back off to optimise for range. The riding characteristics can, however, be switched up via the Avinox app, which also serves to provide bicycle security and data recording and sharing via the app and the e-bike's Bluetooth connection.

DJI also includes a GaN fast charger that it says can charge the 800 Wh battery from 0–75% in just an hour and a half.

DJI and Amflow claim the PL only weighs in at 19.2 kg — a weight that is starting to get dangerously close to regular traditional mountain bikes — and this is thanks to a lightweight carbon frame. The combined package of the lightweight Amflow PL and DJI Avinox motor and battery system are supposed to come together to make an all-round eMTB that is both powerful enough for punchy climbs and efficient enough for long days in the saddle.

How that works out in practice remains to be seen, though. In terms of the actual mountain bike parts of the Amflow PL, the electric bicycle seems rather well-equipped, with a Fox Float X Factory rear air shock and a Fox Factory 36 front air fork. The Amflow PL is designed with both 27.5" and 29" wheels in mind, giving riders a choice between a light and nimble ride or something fast and stable.

Amflow and DJI have yet to reveal pricing on the Amflow PL, but the Amflow Bikes page is live with an email updates field for interested buyers, and the new eMTB should be available for order in Q4 2024.
