DJI releases new Mini 4K drone as cheaper Mini 4 Pro rival and Mini 2 SE replacement
DJI has now released the Mini 4K, a drone that effectively succeeds the Mini 2 SE. Initially, the Mini 4K appears to be an Amazon exclusive, where it starts at $299. Thus, the new drone is only $20 more expensive than the Mini 2 SE, contrary to pre-release leaks. Likewise, there is an even bigger price gap between the Mini 4K and Mini 4 Pro, which retails for $959.
Alternatively, the Mini 4K can be purchased as a 'Two-Battery Combo' pack for $348, which adds a pair of Intelligent Flight batteries. Please note that both prices include an RC-N1C remote controller that lacks a built-in display. As expected, the Mini 4K features a 1/2.3-inch CMOS camera sensor that can record videos in up to 4K at 30 FPS, unlike the Mini 2 SE.
The Mini 4K and Mini 2 SE are similar in most other areas though, including their support for DJI O2 video transmission technology. As such, the Mini 4K can transmit images from up to 10 km away, albeit only at 720p/30 FPS. Moreover, the new drone has a three-axis gimbal and electronic image stabilisation (EIS). However, the Mini 4K lacks optical image stabilisation (OIS) that would offer superior image stabilisation in most scenarios. Please see the Mini 4K product listing for more hardware details.
