Various sources have shared more information about the possibility of DJI releasing a new action camera. For context, the company currently competes with the likes of GoPro and Insta360 through the Osmo Action 4 (curr. $299 on Amazon). However, evidence emerged last month that it was developing the Action 5 Pro as a successor to its existing action camera.
Based on more recent information, that may not reflect all of DJI's plans. Instead, it appears that the company has developed two new action cameras, one called the Action 5 and the Action 5 Pro. In other words, DJI may well be taking a leaf out of Insta360's book, which currently sells not just the Ace but also the Ace Pro.
Unfortunately, little is known about the Action 5 yet, other than the photo that @OsitvaLV reproduced on X (formerly Twitter). By contrast, leaked photos suggest that the Action 5 Pro will combine a rugged housing with a 1/1.3-inch sensor that has an f/2.8 aperture and a 155° field of view (FoV). Also, if a recent Federal Communications Commission (FCC) listing is anything to go by, then these camera hardware improvements will be joined by faster wired charging. While a release date remains unknown for now, it seems that DJI is also preparing to release a new Mavic drone by way of the Mavic 4, coverage of which we have provided separately.
