Amazfit will release a Kelvin Kiptum Commemorative Edition of the Amazfit Cheetah Pro smartwatch. The news follows the tragic passing of the marathon world record holder. The wearable was announced at the same time as the company’s partnership with the Kelvin Kiptum Foundation, aiming to fund education and infrastructure in Kenya. Amazfit said it would donate $100,000 to the foundation and profits from the smartwatch.
The Amazfit Cheetah Pro Kelvin Kiptum Commemorative Edition features the colors of the Kenyan flag alongside Kiptum’s signature on the fabric band. It appears that the wearable will have a titanium alloy bezel in gold, as with the regular Cheetah Pro. Besides the design, the watch is expected to be identical to the standard edition, offering GPS, offline maps and various tools designed for racing and training.
Only 235 units of the limited edition watch have been made, a nod to the runner’s 2:00:35 world record marathon time. Some watches will be available at the Rotterdam Marathon Expo on April 13th and 14th, with the remaining stock available at the Amazfit online store from April 11th. The cost of the Amazfit Cheetah Pro Kelvin Kiptum Commemorative Edition smartwatch is unclear. For context, the standard Cheetah Pro retails for $299.99.
