Huawei rolls out new security update for smartwatches globally
The Huawei Watch 3 and Watch 3 Pro have received a new update, version 3.0.0.177, rolling out globally. The latest software arrived shortly after version 3.0.0.174, which brought system stability improvements. As its version number suggests, this is a HarmonyOS 3 update, with HarmonyOS 4.0 only available for users on the closed beta program.
Version 3.0.0.177 is a security patch for the Huawei Watch 3 series wearables. Confusingly, the release notes state this is the May 2024 update despite reaching users in June. As is the way with such updates, unfortunately, there are no details as to what improvements have been made.
This is a 263MB update that can be downloaded via the Huawei Health app. The company asks users to check that they are using the latest version of the app before triggering the installation and warns them that the process may take several hours. The software is already available for many customers, suggesting we are near the end of the phased rollout. It remains to be seen when a public HarmonyOS 4.0 update will be released for the Huawei Watch 3 and Watch 3 Pro devices.
