New Philips 5000 series Smart Deadbolt launches with palm recognition
The Philips 5000 series Smart Deadbolt is now available in the US. The smart home product was shown at CES 2024 earlier this year, with the company claiming it is the first deadbolt with palm recognition technology.
The Smart Deadbolt activates via a proximity sensor, scanning your palm vein pattern for a match rather than taking a surface palm print. Philips suggests its method has 99.99% accuracy, is suitable for all ages and will still work if your palms are sweaty or dusty. Other unlocking methods include a one-time or permanent PIN code, a mechanical key or the Home Access app. You can also use the app to configure the device’s settings, such as auto-locking, and receive notifications. Alternatively, you can control the gadget with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant voice commands. The Philips 5000 series smart lock has a built-in doorbell feature and wireless chime, and the Wi-Fi module means it does not require a bridge.
Two colorways are on offer, Satin Nickel and Matte Black, and, according to the company, it is easily installed with just a screwdriver. The Philips 5000 series Smart Deadbolt has a recommended retail price of $359.99 and is currently available at Amazon US for a slightly higher price of $379.99. Listings have appeared on Amazon in countries like the UK, Canada, and France, although the product is currently unavailable. Launch dates and pricing for these markets remain unclear.
