23 years ago, this cell phone was a sensation—can the smartphone version measure up?

Of course, Motorola is tapping into the nostalgia of its older target audience by launching the Razr Ultra 2026 (Razr 70 Ultra) —a foldable smartphone that opens along its short side and bears this iconic name. At the same time, the young, stylish target audience is being targeted with Pantone colors and innovative materials for the back panel.

Just like with the flip phone 20 years ago, you can answer calls by opening it and prop up the phone in tent mode for selfies without using a tripod. It’s a concept that’s still exciting, but no longer quite as unique: Samsung offers a comparable model in the Galaxy Z Flip, and several other manufacturers have also adopted the design.

But one thing is certain: The Razr Ultra 2026 (Razr 70 Ultra) is sure to turn heads—it’s not just another plain iPhone that seems like every other person is carrying around.

A wood-effect finish on the back or Alcantara—both available in Pantone colors—draw just as much attention as the unusually compact shape when it’s folded shut.

It also features two large OLED displays, which proved to be very bright and vibrant in our review. The inner display is covered with an exceptionally thin protective glass that’s so flexible that you can fold the phone. On the outside, however, Gorilla Glass Ceramic is used to protect the display from impacts or drops.

Compared to its predecessor, the Razr 60 Ultra, however, the 2026 model appears to have been improved or changed in only a few areas: For example, it has a slightly larger battery, which resulted in 50 minutes of additional runtime in our Wi-Fi test. It also features significantly improved thermal management, allowing you to get more power out of the high-performance SoC, even under prolonged heavy use.

The Razr Ultra 2026 (Razr 70 Ultra) is, however, an expensive choice: It costs around US$ 1,500 at amazon.com. Despite the high price, you’ll have to make some compromises when it comes to features.
