Xiaomi debuts UPS power bank for its new NAS

Xiaomi has recently launched the Smart Storage, the company's first NAS. It's a two-bay Network Attached Storage (NAS) device that comes with a couple of nifty backup features. The company has now launched a backup UPS for it.

This new UPS power supply is shaped like a power bank, and the good part is that it doesn't require a separate connection. The adapter of the NAS connects to it, and it connects to the DC port of the storage system.

It has a rated capacity of 18Wh, and Xiaomi notes that the UPS can offer 12V output at 8A. The company didn't disclose how long the power bank can keep the NAS running, but depending on the workload, it should be able to deliver around 30 minutes of power, which should be enough for finishing backup tasks.

There are multiple protection features to ensure stable operation and lower risk of data loss. The company notes that the UPS is made for the Xiaomi Smart Storage NAS only, but it should work with systems with matching input and output ratings (aceyoon DC jack converter kit curr. $17.99 on Amazon).

As for the price, the backup UPS is currently available on Xiaomi's crowdfunding platform Youpin, and the initial price is CNY 349, about $51. The company hasn't introduced the NAS in the global market yet, and there's no word about this power bank going global either.
