Xiaomi opens pre-orders for its first NAS at an affordable starting price

Xiaomi has finally opened pre-orders for its first NAS device, the Xiaomi Smart Storage, following the crowdfunding phase, with pre-orders available through JD.com from August 27 to September 26. The two-bay NAS starts at CNY 2,699 (about $401) for a 4 TB configuration with two 2 TB HDDs. The 8 TB version, with two 4 TB HDDs, is priced at CNY 3,499 (about $520), while the top-tier 16 TB version, with two 8 TB HDDs, is priced at CNY 5,499 (about $817). The device is said to support up to 60 TB of storage, allowing for two 30 TB drives.
The device measures 200.5 x 85 x 161 mm and weighs about 2.3 kg, with an aluminum alloy frame that houses two 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch SATA drive bays. It runs on a Realtek RTD1619B quad-core Arm processor with 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of onboard storage. Connectivity options include a 2.5G Ethernet port, HDMI, and USB-A, and the unit doubles as a smart home gateway for Xiaomi's connected devices.
Selected Xiaomi camera models can record directly to the NAS, and the company's file management app for Xiaomi phones supports full device backups and quick access to stored files. JD's listing also includes a companion UPS accessory priced at ¥349 (about $52), which provides backup power during outages.
Buyers can currently reserve a unit through JD's booking system, which closes at 2 a.m. GMT on August 27, with the general sale beginning immediately afterward. Global launch details have yet to be confirmed, but the device could be introduced outside China soon.
