Stellar AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D gaming performance highlighted by first-party benchmarks
The highly-anticipated AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D is set to make its debut on April 6. Unlike its predecessors, the processor has remained under wraps, although it did show up on the SiSoft Sandra benchmark database, where it lived up to earlier predictions by outperforming its predecessor (Ryzen 7 5800X3D) by up to 36%. Now, Videocardz has obtained some information about its gaming prowess.
Before proceeding, it is pertinent to note the benchmarks are first-party and should be treated with a heavy dose of scepticism. Depending on the title, the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D is anywhere between 31% to -9% faster than Intel's flagship Core i9-13900K. Some of the games tested include Horizon Zero Dawn, DOTA2, CS: GO, Far Cry 6, Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassin's Creed: Valhalla.
While the complete specifications of the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D test rig are unknown, all titles have been tested at 1080p with high settings, effectively eliminating any GPU-bound bottlenecks. That said, the results could be quite different at 4K with the graphics settings cranked up, especially in resource-heavy titles such as Cyberpunk 2077. The list doesn't include many newer, even heavier games, such as Hogwarts Legacy, Forspoken and The Last of Us Part 1.
Even the top-of-the-line Ryzen 9 7950X3D was found to be a little over 3% faster than its Raptor Lake competitor. Therefore, it's best to keep our expectations in check until third-party benchmarks emerge. However, its US$499 price tag should make it an obvious choice for mid-range PCs. Combined with a soon-to-be-launched US$599 GeForce RTX 4070, it could make for an excellent 1440p gaming machine.
