Samsung first-gen foldable laptop tipped to land with Galaxy Z Fold5-style hinge
Samsung has yet to follow through on its well-hyped plans to join Lenovo, Asus and LG in releasing its inaugural foldable laptop. Then again, when it eventually does so, the South Korean behemoth might be able to boast that it will have an important design characteristic in common with the better-known Galaxy Z Fold and Flip devices.
The OEM is now rumored to put the same water-drop hinge from its newer foldable smartphones into their laptop counterpart as well, which could make it one of the thinnest of its kind on the market on its launch.
Then again, some industry commentators dismiss this idea as too risky for the hypothetical PC's durability, and maintain that Samsung should go with something else (such as its older U-type hinge) that would make it thicker and more like current models such as the ThinkPad X1 Fold.
Either way, this rumored first-gen Samsung foldable laptop is now projected to be on the market in the second half of 2024 at the earliest. In fact, some other "insiders" would advise the OEM to wait even longer until the PC market heats up and its position within it gets better.
