New leak reveals AMD's absolutely stacked CES 2025 lineup
CES 2025 is shaping up to be one of the most stacked events for hardware enthusiasts. Among other things, we'll get to see new Intel Arrow Lake dekstop and laptop CPUs, Battlemage GPUs, and Nvidia's GeForce RTX 50 series of graphics cards. However, AMD's presentation will be one to look forward to the most, if a new leak from a Chinese forum is accurate. AMD plans to unveil a boatload of products at the convention including:
- Strix Halo (Ryzen AI Max) laptop chips
- Fire Range (Ryzen 9000 laptop SKUs and their X3D versions)
- Kraken Point (Strix Point successor)
- Ryzen Z2 Extreme, Ryzen Z2, and a Ryzen Z2G
- Radeon RX 8000 RDNA 4 desktop GPUs
- Ryzen 9 9900X3D and Ryzen 9 9950X3D
Of course, not all products shown off will be available to purchase immediately. The Ryzen 9 9900 and 9950X3D, in particular, might not hit shelves until some time later, otherwise, they run the risk of cannibalizing Ryzen 7 9800X3D sales, which launches just a few weeks prior. Nevertheless, AMD is in no rush to push out the flagship X3D chips because Intel Arrow Lake poses to threat to Team Red, at least in gaming.
The Radeon RX 8000 RDNA 4 GPUs should ideally launch alongside their Nvidia counterparts. Even though AMD does not have a RTX 5090 (or even RTX 5080) equivalent this time around, the hyper-competitive mid-range segment will be flush with SKUs like the Radeon RX 8700 XT and Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070. Interestingly, RDNA 4 laptop is nowhere to be found on the list, indicating AMD plans to unveil it later in 2025.
Kraken Point and Strix Halo are shaping up to be AMD's business-focused SKUs. While there is evidence of at least one Asus tablet using the former, it will almost certainly be reserved for workstation-grade laptops. Fire Range, on the other hand, is AMD's answer to Arrow Lake-HX, which is slated to debut around the same time. Both should power gaming laptops in 2025, but if a recent rumour is accurate, we might not get to see too many of them in action.
That leaves us with the Ryzen Z2 Extreme, Ryzen Z2 and a mysterious product called Ryzen Z2G. It isn't clear what the third SKU is. It might as well be a bad translation or a lower-spec Ryzen Z2 variant. Either way, these chips will power handheld gaming consoles launched in 2025 and maybe even 2026. Unfortunately, the Steam Deck 2 might not be one of them as Valve has no plans to rush it.
