Vaio presents new consumer and business laptops with ultra lightweight designs
Vaio has announced two new laptops, which are both based on Intel's older Meteor Lake architecture. In other words, the Vaio SX14-R and Vaio Pro PK-R are unlikely to match the power efficiency and graphics capabilities of Lunar Lake-equipped alternatives like the MSI Prestige 13 AI+ Evo (curr. $1,399.99 on Amazon).
Despite this, Vaio's new laptops feature compact and lightweight designs that tip the scales at under 1 kg in their base configurations. For reference, while the Vaio SX14-R reaches 1.178 kg when fully configured, the Vaio Pro PK-R tops out at 1.237 kg. Nonetheless, both machines measure 312 x 226 x 19 mm.

Although Vaio has not confirmed battery capacities yet for either laptop, it has revealed which processors will be available. Specifically, the pair are configurable with the following Meteor Lake chipsets:
- Vaio Pro PK-R
- Intel Core Ultra 5 125U, Core Ultra 5 135U, Core Ultra 7 165U, Core Ultra 7 155H
- Vaio SX14-R
- Intel Core Ultra 5 125H, Core Ultra 7 155H
Additionally, Vaio offers the pair with up to 64 GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 2 TB of upgradeable PCIe 4.0 storage. Moreover, the company has integrated plenty of ports, including Thunderbolt 4, Gigabit Ethernet and HDMI. On top of that, both support 4G LTE and GPS. However, the Vaio SX14-R masters newer wireless connectivity standards than the Vaio Pro PK-R.
Meanwhile, Vaio also provides multiple display options, although all are 14-inch panels. Incidentally, while most options have anti-glare coatings, the Vaio Pro PK-R can be configured with glossy touchscreen panels that support active pen input even though the device adopts a conventional laptop form factor. Currently, the pair are exclusive to Japan; Vaio has not revealed international availability yet.
