Ubuntu-based Br OS version 24.10 comes with KDE Plasma 6 and Wayland
Introduced at version 20.05 a few years ago, Brazilian-made Br OS has just moved up to 24.10 yesterday. The update comes with the KDE Plasma 6 desktop environment and Wayland set as the default window manager. While Wayland replaces X11, the latter is still available as an alternative to those who are not feeling ready to move forward yet. Obviously, there are more changes coming with Br OS 24.10 that we will mention below.
Without further ado, these are the remaining highlights of Br OS 24.10:
- QT 6.6.2 and the version 6.6.0 KDE Framework.
- Linux kernel 6.11.0.
- Under-the-hood Ubuntu 24.10-specific changes, such as tighter security controls, improved software management, and more.
- Multiple package updates, including Firefox 131.0.3, GTK 4.16.2, MESA 24.2.3, vim 9.1, xorg-server 21.1.13, and so on.
In addition to the regular edition, Br OS also comes with a LTS version, which is currently at version 24.04 and gets two years of support, as well as extended support from Ubuntu's creators at Canonical. A third flavor is also available, and it's quite different from its siblings, being built directly on Debian GNU/Linux. Br OS DE 12.5 is the latest version available at this moment. All three editions can be downloaded directly from SourceForge, here.
Released in 2020, the 10th edition Ubuntu Linux Bible is currently available on Amazon for $25.12 instead of $50 when choosing the paperback version. The Kindle version goes for $30, without any discounts involved.
