AlmaLinux OS 9.5 launches with improved security and performance
Roughly six months after the release of version 9.4 "Seafoam Ocelot," AlmaLinux OS 9.5 "Teal Serval" is now available. This refresh pushes the kernel version number to 5.14.0-503.11.1 and aims to improve all areas of the operating system while focusing on speed and security alongside development tooling.
According to the official AlmaLinux OS website, the 9.5 update comes with the latest versions of compilers, which pack features and optimizations aimed at improving compiling speed and generating better code. Also,
"The release also introduces improvements to system performance monitoring, visualization, and system performance data collecting. Security updates are directed at strengthening cryptography, while SELinux policies enforce stricter access controls. Additionally, crypto-policies offer stronger encryption, improving the overall security of the system."
The ISO mirrors and torrents are up for the 64-bit Intel/AMD, ARM64, IBM PowerPC, and IBM Z architectures already. As soon as possible, AlmaLinux OS containers, cloud, and live images will go live as well, including a Raspberry Pi version. The list of mirrors is available on this page. The AlmaLinux Wiki (link in the Source(s) section) has everything a newbie needs and then some, also providing comprehensive documentation for seasoned users.
If all the official documentation is not enough or one simply wants a different format/approach, AlmaLinux 9 Essentials: Learn to Install, Administer, and Deploy Rocky Linux 9 Systems by Neil Smyth can be the solution. This book is only available in Kindle format and goes for $29.99.
