GhostBSD 24.10.1 comes with Netflix support in Chromium alongside multiple fixes and package updates
FreeBSD-based GhostBSD is back with version 24.10.1, and this time there are no big steps ahead as it was the case with 24.07.1, when the team headed by Eric Turgeon decided to push forward and take advantage of the FreeBSD PKGBSD system. Now, the most important change is the introduction of Netflix support in the Chromium web browser. Alongside it, multiple packages have been updated, and some issues have been ironed out as well.
The list of changes in GhostBSD 24.10.1 includes the removal of UFS from custom installations, support for marking packages as vital packages, the update of the base packages to match the latest refreshes of FreeBSD code, as well as driver support for AMD Radeon R5, R6, and FirePro devices. The full release notes can be found in the link present in the Source(s) section at the end of the article.
The XFCE edition has been updated as well. The system requirements for the regular edition and this community build have not changed, so those interested in trying GhostBSD for the first time should know that only 64-bit processors are supported, and a full system install requires 15 GB of free disk space. Otherwise, 4 GB of memory and a network card are also in the list of minimum system requirements.
Those interested in UNIX and Linux might want to check out Brian Kernighan's UNIX: A History and a Memoir, which is currently available for free in Kindle format with Kindle Unlimited or $9.95 to buy, while the paperback edition goes for $18.95.
