Nvidia has kicked off the holiday season by updating its Jetson range with the Jetson Orin Nano Super, which it describes as 'the world's most affordable generative AI computer'. While the Jetson Orin Nano Super is much more expensive than older models like the Jetson Nano Developer Kit, it retails for half the price of its direct predecessor. Nonetheless, the new Jetson Orin is much pricier than other single-board computers (SBCs) like the Raspberry Pi 5 (curr. $72.99 on Amazon).
For $249, Nvidia includes an Ampere architecture GPU with 1,024 CUDA cores and 32 Tensor cores. Additionally, the company pairs this GPU with a hexa-core ARM Cortex-A78AE CPU and 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM operating on a 128-bit bus to provide a 102 GB/s bandwidth. On top of that, Nvidia states that the Jetson Orin Nano Super delivers up to 67 TOPS (INT8) of AI performance.
In other words, the new SBC offers 1.7x the performance of its predecessor in generative AI tasks. Currently, the Jetson Orin Nano Super is available from retailers like Arrow, Seeed Studio and SparkFun in one configuration. However, it seems that only Seeed Studio is accepting orders for now, with a scheduled shipment date of January 1, 2025. Please see Nvidia's website for more details.
