We've known for a while now that Nvidia is planning on unveiling its GeForce RTX 5000 series “Blackwell” GPUs at CES 2025, with the RTX 5090, 5080, and 5070 series leading the pack. However, it's beginning to look like Nvidia will shake up its usual launch strategy, this time around, specifically when it comes to retail availability.
A fresh set of Nvidia Blackwell leaks from Wccftech has revealed that the flagship RTX 5090 32 GB will not be the first card Nvidia releases via retail channels after the CES 2025 announcement. Instead, the RTX 5080 16 GB will launch first, in mid-January — indicating availability immediately following or shortly after a CES 2025 announcement — and the RTX 5090 32 GB will follow shortly after.
It's still not clear where the first RTX 5070 variant fits into this launch schedule, but it's entirely possible that it will launch after the 5090 or at the same time as the top-tier chip, bookending the RTX 5080. Mobile fans will also seemingly get their fix of GPU news at the same time as Nvidia's desktop announcement, but the leak doesn't go into detail to confirm the recent Asus laptop Blackwell specifications leak we reported on earlier this week.
It should be noted that these supposed leaks are not concrete, and Wccftech has not provided any solid evidence of its claim, instead simply stating that the publication had “received some information” about the retail launches.
