It seems that Raspberry Pi could be starting the new year with another hardware release. To recap, the company rounded off 2024 by releasing the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 (curr. $68.99 on Amazon) with an associated IO board. Prior to that, it presented the Pico 2 W, Touch Display 2, the Raspberry Pi SSD Kit and the USB 3 Hub, all in the same month.
Now, we have received word that a Raspberry Pi 5 with 16 GB of RAM could be on the way. Incidentally, the company hinted that a corresponding version of the Raspberry Pi CM5 is on the way. However, it did not provide any clarity beyond it being available 'sometime next year'.
Unfortunately, it still remains unclear when the company will release a 16 GB version of the Raspberry Pi CM5. By contrast, our source claims that the larger Raspberry Pi 5 will receive a 16 GB of RAM refresh on January 8.
Allegedly, versions of the Pi 5 with the markings for 16 GB of RAM are already shipping too, albeit not with 16 GB of RAM installed. Presumably, this means that an updated Raspberry Pi CM5 will not be far behind. Pricing remains unknown for both variants for now, though.
