Pico 2 W: Raspberry Pi releases new RP2350 single-board computer with wireless and Micro USB connectivity
The Raspberry Pi Foundation has refreshed its Pico 2 microcontroller board, roughly three months after the original model debuted globally (curr. $9.99 on Amazon). This time, the Foundation has introduced the Pico 2 W, which adds wireless connectivity but at a higher price point.
Specifically, the Foundation has priced the Pico 2 W at $7. In other words, the Pico 2 W is 40% more expensive than the existing Pico 2. To recap, the Pico 2 series features the RP2350 microcontroller, which includes 520 KB of SRAM and a pair of ARM Cortex-M33 processor cores that support ARM Trustzone and Secure Boot. Moreover, while the RP2350 also includes two RISC-V Hazard3 cores, only one set can be used at once.
Furthermore, the Pico 2 W offers 4 MB of onboard QSPI flash storage, a Micro USB 1.1 port and a 26-pin GPIO header. On top of that, the Foundation has confirmed that the Pico 2 W borrows the Infineon CYW43439 modem from its predecessor, which limits it to Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 4 (802.11 n) connectivity. Please see CNX Software's early comparison between the Pico 2 and Pico 2 W for more information and the Pi Foundation's website for purchase details.
