Thanks to AMD Strix Point Ryzen AI 9 chips, Qualcomm Snapdragon X SoCs, and Intel Lunar Lake Core Ultra 200V processors, the Windows laptop ecosystem is in a pretty good space right now. Gone are the days when you needed to trade performance and battery life for a thin and light build. There are now plenty of portable Windows machines on the market that are both snappy and last long.
What’s more, you can find many thin and light laptops at deep discounts thanks to sales that become frequent this time of the year.
Case in point, the latest Asus Vivobook S 14 OLED laptop with a Core Ultra 5 226V chip, 16 GB of RAM, and 512 GB of storage can now be yours for only $649.99 at Best Buy. This is a massive discount of $300 on the $949.9 list price.
Asus Vivobook S 14 enjoys a high customer rating
While we are yet to review the Lunar Lake-based Asus Vivobook S 14, the laptop enjoys an excellent customer rating of 4.6/5 at Best Buy with reviews praising the notebook's solid chassis, beautiful display, snappy performance, and long battery life.
Going into a bit more detail, the Asus Vivobook S 14 (Q423) on sale features a 14-inch OLED panel with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200. In our review of the Vivobook S 14 (M5406), we measured the display to deliver complete DCI-P3 coverage, 380 nits of average brightness, and OLED’s characteristic contrast ratio. So, the Vivobook S 14’s display will be a joy to watch movies/play games on.
Talking about playing games, the Vivobook S 14 should be able to run older/less demanding titles at FHD at playable frame rates thanks to the Arc 140V iGPU. For instance, in our Intel Lunar Lake iGPU analysis, the Arc 140V played games like F1 24 and The Witcher 3 at 60 FPS under FHD resolution and high settings.
Similarly, the 8-core/8-thread CPU component of the Core Ultra 5 226V should also leave a pretty good impression with Cinebench 2024 Single-Core and Multi-core scores of 111 and 530 points, respectively.
Finally, the 75 Wh battery is expected to last for a good while as Lunar Lake chips are quite efficient. For instance, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition with a Core Ultra 7 256V and a 70 Wh battery lasted for over 17 hours in our WLAN test.
Long story short, the Asus Vivobook S 14 OLED laptop is portable, packs the latest Intel chip, has a decent port selection including two Thunderbolt 4 ports, and boasts an OLED panel. For only $649.99, it is a pretty sweet value.
