Intel efficient once again: Asus ExpertBook P5 achieves 16 hours of battery life with Lunar Lake
When buying a new laptop with an Intel processor, customers had to go through a dilemma. Due to the CPUs being inefficient, buyers had to choose between a low res screen, which would boost up the battery life, or a great screen that would drain the battery too fast. Battery life or screen quality - not an easy choice.
With Lunar Lake, Intel wants to up the efficiency of its CPUs in a major way. Our big review of Intel Core Ultra 200V showed that especially the everyday efficiency is improved over the older Intel Meteor Lake CPUs. For users, this brings many advantages: Laptops with the new CPU platform run less hot, less loud and their batteries last longer. In a way, it is Intel's equivalent to the Apple M1: The moment when Intel laptops become much more efficient. The screen quality vs. battery life dilemma is mostly resolved.
A concrete example is the Asus ExpertBook P5 P5405, which we recently reviewed. Asus delivers this small business laptop with a screen resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 and a refresh rate of 144 Hz. It is just an IPS screen and not an OLED one, just the higher refresh rate and screen resolution have historically been enough to cut the battery life of an Intel laptop by a significant margin.
Not so with the Asus ExpertBook P5: It lasted for 16 hours in our Wi-Fi test (150 cd/m² screen brightness). This is more than a full day of work, and once again shows that Intel really managed to pull off a big win when it comes to efficiency.
