Now that the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D (check out our in-depth review here) is out and about, it is time to shift focus to Ryzen 9 X3D SKUs. Previous rumours indicated the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and Ryzen 9 9950X3D would debut at CES 2025. Now, we get our first look at the latter in the wild.
X leaker @Olrak29_ spotted the CPU on the FactorioBox benchmark website. Here, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D was found to be 16% faster than the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. It was tested with 256 GB of DDR5-6000 RAM, the maximum supported by the consumer Zen 5 desktop platform.
Unfortunately, the only tidbit of information we get here is that the Ryzen 9 9950X3D has 16 CPU cores, something that has been known for a while. The good part is, now that benchmark results for the CPU are starting to pop up online, there is little doubt that the X3D part is almost ready for launch.
AMD's new reversed packaging tech for X3D CPUs opens up possibilities for a cache die on every CCD, meaning we could potentially have a Ryzen 9 9950X3D with 192 MB of L3 cache. Of course, this will come with a hefty price tag, but it will be well worth it, especially when paired with something like an RTX 5090.
