As Microsoft reportedly develops more consoles, new Xbox controller rumors are surfacing. In the latest XB2 podcast, Jez Corden discussed three peripherals that are in development. With varying price points and features, some models would connect to Xbox Cloud Gaming servers. The leaker Extas1s echoed the news but added a few details. He described a DualSense-like Elite Series controller with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
Corden believes that Microsoft plans to release new Xbox controllers at three price points. The first accessory would update the stock controller that ships with current Xbox consoles. This device would have some next-gen upgrades, but the specific features are unclear. The second controller should resemble the Sebile, which may have launched with the now-canceled Xbox Brooklin. Corden compares this modestly priced option to the Elite Series 2. Finally, the most expensive device could become the Elite Series 3.
The cheapest new Xbox controller might not have cloud capabilities. Still, the connectivity is an emphasis of Microsoft's upcoming peripherals. Instead of pairing with smartphones using Bluetooth, the controllers would use a WiFi connection to Xbox Cloud Gaming. Competitive players would appreciate improved latency. Corden also explained that future Xbox controllers would simplify multi-device connectivity. The devices may have a physical switch to toggle between cloud, Bluetooth, and 2.4 GHz wireless sources.
During his own video, Extas1s expanded on many of the podcast's claims. The Elite Series 3 would introduce detailed haptic feedback that rivals the effects produced by the DualSense. Unfortunately, there is still no mention of Hall effect technology to combat analog stick drift.
Corden thinks that some of the upcoming controllers may appear before a new Xbox console. As Xbox Cloud Gaming grows, the innovative WiFi connectivity would have immediate benefits.
