The smartphone industry has a history of supercar manufacturer collaborations, whether that be Honor and Huawei with Porsche Design, OnePlus with Mclaren or Vivo with BMW. Meanwhile, Oppo and Xiaomi tend to favour Lamborghini. Now, it seems that Aston Martin could be returning to the smartphone market, having previously worked with Acer, Nokia and Samsung to create limited-edition smartphones.
For context, the video embedded below has surfaced only a few months after Aston Martin's Formula 1 team announced a multi-year partnership with ARM. At the time of writing, it is unclear with whom Aston Martin has partnered with this time. However, the Android OEM in question is unlikely to be Samsung, with whom Aston Martin delivered the Galaxy Z Fold2 Aston Martin Racing Edition almost five years ago. Incidentally, Samsung has only given the Galaxy Z Flip6 the special edition treatment of its current generation smartphones (curr. $629.99 - refurbished on Amazon).
According to Ice Universe, Aston Martin has collaborated with a Chinese OEM, which has prompted speculation from their followers about what company this could be. Unfortunately, the teaser video only reveals hints about the smartphone, which appears to have a flat display and a flat silver frame. Nonetheless, the ties between Aston Martin and Geely suggest that we would be looking at a re-branded Meizu smartphone, much like last year's Polestar Phone.
